As a corporate citizen and part of the educational business sector, Vibal Publishing House focuses
its efforts to reach out to the community by initiating and participating in various

It established the Vibal Foundation to undertake educational, cultural, and artistic programs
in order to contribute to the upliftment of the lives of Filipinos, particularly the youth. In keeping

  • 1961, Vibal's textbook publishing division was begun by Esther A. Vibal, formerly of the Manila Times.
  • 1963, it published one of its first texbooks in science called Science and Health for Everyone, Grade IV and Science and Health for Better Living, Grade V, both authored by Trinidad Mariņo.
  • 1964, VPHI branched out to Mathematics and Social Studies with the publication of New Adventures in Arithmetic and School Time.
  • 1977, VPHI published English Reader, the initial textbook in its first English series which, as early as then integrated Math, Science and Values content in one book.
  • 1978, VPHI on its 25th year inaugurated its brand new four-storey complex at the corner of EDSA and Quezon Avenue.
  • 1979, Vibal entered the private school market and by 1980 it established its first branch office in Cebu. In the same year it launched Student's Digest,a supplementary social studies periodical.
  • 1981, To better reach its private school customers, the Educational Service Program (ESP) was launched in 1981 to assist schools in the development and training of faculty members.
  • 1986, VPHI began computerizing its operations, starting with its book development department which received its first batch of Apple Macintosh computers.
  • 1991, Vibal established a sister company, SD Publications, Inc. to undertake the publication of supplementary magazines and handle the public school textbook requirements. Eight years later VPHI further expanded its sales reach with the establishment of its second regional office in Davao.
  • 2000, VPHI expanded its product line to include innovative multimedia educational materials in VHS and CD format in 2000.
  • 2001, VPHI President Esther A. Vibal received the Book Development Leadership Award from the National Book Development Board.
  • 2002, To further address its expansion requirements, VPHI moved in 2002 to its new headquarters--a four-storey complex at the corner of Gregorio Araneta Ave. and Maria Clara St. in Quezon City.
  • 2003, VPHI marked its 50 years in the publishing industry. Since then it has concentrated on educational publishing and has grown to be the biggest educational publisher in the country.
  • 2006, September 28, , Vibal ventured into online publishing with the launch of Filipiniana.net, the Philippines' premiere digital library and research portal. It offers free, 24/7 internet access to rare books, images and other artifacts of Philippine studies.
  • 2007, August 29, Vibal launched WikiPilipinas on the occasion of the Manila International Book Fair. With its more than 50,000 articles, WikiPilipinas has become the world's largest Philippine encyclopedia.
