Vibal Releases English Textbooks with Digital Content
by A. Ursua • 2010-03-02

A free interactive CD-ROM is bundled to each textbook of the second edition of ABRE and ABLA series

Vibal Publishing is issuing the second edition of both Across Borders Through Reading (ABRE) 1-6, and Across Borders Through Language (ABLA) 1-6 for use this school year 2010-11. Through these textbooks, schools can innovate on the teaching of reading and language for grade school as both ABRE and ABLA series are complemented with digital content. Each textbook is bundled with a CD-ROM and provided with book support site online.

Through the CD-ROMs, students can learn and develop comprehension, grammar, listening, and vocabulary skills on the computer through animated presentations, auditory comprehension and discrimination exercises as well as interactive grammar activities.

For more e-learning content, the learners can go online and access the ABRE and ABLA book sites by logging on to i-learn.vibalpublishing.com where additional drills are provided; including quick links to reviewed web resources.

With integration across the curricular areas, the ABRE series helps develop concepts in environmental education, science and technology and values education. It offers literary selections in a variety of genres and effectively addresses vocabulary, comprehension, and literary appreciation skills, especially with the interactive activities found in the CD-ROMs and in the online book sites.

The ABLA series, on the other hand, develops learners’ communicative competence by focusing on the language macro-skills. It follows the structural-functional approach wherein grammar is given importance and language functions are taken up in the various learning activities made experiential with the use of the CD-ROMs and the online book sites.

For high school English, Vibal Publishing is also issuing this coming school year the third edition of Language in Literature series with e-learning supplements accessed through the online book sites. The third edition also incorporates the inputs of schools that have adopted the series for several years. The firm conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the English subject coordinators and teachers from its client schools last year.

The accompanying teacher’s manuals facilitate the use of the digital enrichments of the latest editions of the ABRE, ABLA and Language in Literature textbooks series. For better appreciation of the e-learning materials for these textbooks, teachers should log on to i-teach.vibalpublishing.com, the Vibal digital hub for teachers where they can also access a portal for Understanding by Design (UbD) teaching framework.
