byKat Bautista • April 11, 2010

PNRC representative Levy Saraus explains the importance of preparing for a disaster
Vibal Publishing in cooperation with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) and the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) conducted a series of safety and disaster awareness seminar last April 8-10, 2010 for its employees to be prepared for emergency situations.

There were lectures on the anatomy of a disaster, disaster preparedness and first aid for each of the major divisions of the company: administration, publishing and printing.

Levy Saraus, the speaker from PNRC reiterated that there is nothing better that being prepared to any disaster whether natural or not. Likewise, he said that “prevention is still the best preparation for a man-made disaster like fire.”

Saraus also oriented the participants on the beginnings and history of the Red Cross.

The three day seminar culminated in a fire and an earthquake drill wherein each team was assigned to respond to a specific emergency.

All the employees took part in the fire and earthquake drills in the last afternoon of the seminar. Even the authors who were present had to evacuate the editorial offices when the fire alarm was sounded for the drill.

The seminar was conducted upon the initiative of Mrs. Esther A. Vibal, who is a director of the Philippine National Red Cross.
