byCarla Verayo • June 08, 2010

Author of Geodetic Engineering: Laws and Practices book - Engr. Jose P. Gatus
Vibal Publishing launched its first engineering book entitled Geodetic Engineering: Laws and Practices during the Annual National Directorate Meeting and Convention of the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (GEPI) held at Teachers Camp in Baguio City on June 6, 2010.

Authored by GEPI’s past National President and former Director of the Bureau of Lands, Jose P. Gatus MNSA, FGEP, the book covers specific law subjects and other professional courses listed in the curriculum outline for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering as prescribed under CHED Memorandum Order (CMO #12), series of 2008, by the Commission on Higher Education.

The book covers much-needed information for a practicing geodetic engineers, educators and students. It contains current laws and DENR Administrative Orders of great significance to the practice of geodetic engineering in the country. Intriguing questions are posted at the end of each topic, and are answered to illustrate applications of some pertinent provisions of the law or administrative order.

Copies of the book were presented by the author together with Rhodora Capulso (Editor-Area Coordinator), Jacquelyn Quintua (Vibal Subject Coordinator for Science and Technology), and Mrs. Demie Gatus to Engr. Cecilio Reyes (GEPI National President), Engr. Benjamin Mindajao (PRB-GE Chairman), Engr. Epifanio Lopez (UP Professor), Allan Barcena (Director, Land Management Bureau), Engr. Fred Antonio (President, Philippine Technological Council and Association of All Engineering Professions), and Engr. Ramon Dawas (GEP governor and Convention Chairman).

Engr. Gatus considers his book a legacy for the advancement of knowledge in the practice of geodetic engineering as a profession. As the author’s personal pledge to GEPI, a specific percentage of book sales will be directed to the organization’s funding.

Vibal Science and Technology education consultant, Dr. Lilia M. Rabago is the editor of Geodetic Engineering: Laws and Practices. The book was also reviewed by Professor Epifanio Lopez of the University of the Philippines.

The book is available at all National Bookstore branches at Php 350 (SRP). For orders and inquiries, please email inquire@vibalpublishing.com.
