Vibal Publishing House, Inc., the Philippines' leading publisher of educational materials for basic education, joins the Manila International Book Fair on September 14-18, 2011 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
The theme for this year's event, "Words Without Borders," jibes with Vibal's thrust as it plunges headlong into the digital age. .
Over the past few years, Vibal has been leading the way in the creation of educational content on multiple digital platforms, including e-textbooks, CD-ROMs, web-based modules, social networking apps, and games, all while boosting its existing portfolio of pedagogical and instructional materials in the traditional print format.
Children's Books
The company's popular line of children's story books, Chikiting Books, will take centerstage as a handful of titles by renowned authors will be launched during the course of the fair.
Lina Diaz de Rivera’s The Rain is Here, recounts joyful childhood memories from rains of yesteryears. Illustrated by Bernadette Solina-Wolf, the book is a nostalgic tale of childhood bliss during the monsoon season.
The Boy With the Book, also written by de Rivera and illustrated by Solina-Wolf, is a historical narrative of the young Jose Rizal.
Multi-awarded fictionist Eugene Evasco, meanwhile, creates environment consciousness among young readers as he takes them to a trip to the swamps of Candaba in Tag-Araw ng mga Ibong Hilaga. Illustrated by Jomike Tejido, the book introduces readers to the varied migratory birds taking roost in this vast area every year.
The rediscovery of the joys of flight is the theme in Portia Padilla’s The Butterfly Who Did Not Want to Fly. The book weaves the story of Coco as he ruminates on the pleasures of flying. Panch Alcaraz illustrates.
Finally, kids of Filipino workers overseas are given prominence in Genaro Gojo Cruz’s timely story, Ang Malaking Kahon ng Sorpresa. Beyond boxes full of toys and chocolate bars, what do children of OFWs really long for? Insights abound in this book packed with rich illustrations by Bernadette Solina-Wolf.
Sample stories will also be read aloud during the Vibal Chikiting Storytelling Session at the MIBF stage area between 4:30 and 5:30 pm on Friday, September 16th.

Vibal Publishing is the first and only Philippine publisher to successfully deploy English-Filipino interactive editions of its popular printed Chikiting Books, on both the iPad and Android-driven devices. The fifth storybook, Yummy Fly Pie, written and illustrated by Jomike Tejido, is a bilingual English-Mandarin app bundled with a fun and engaging game Baker Frog.
